3 out of 5: newsweek: A
"Must-Read" For Me
by Jack, Dec 18 '04
In the years that I have been a
newsweek magazine reader, I have always found the reporting to be
objective and balanced. Facts and arguments on all sides
of an issue are presented, and it is left in the
readers? hands to come to their own conclusions. Beyond the coverage of current
events, the commentaries offered are consistently
enlightening and thought-provoking. Whether I agree with
an opinion or not, I always find it helpful to read what
someone else has to say on a subject. George Will, Anna
Quindlen and other regular columnists bring unique
context to the subject matter being discussed.

Delivers Slanted But Valuable News Coverage
by celti, Dec 13 '04
Without question, the most
anticipated magazine that arrives in our mailbox every
Monday afternoon is newsweek magazine. My wife has been a
long-time subscriber of the magazine, and I do read it
myself from time to time. |

4 out
of 5: My Weekly Dose of News
by gormly, Dec 08 '04
newsweek is a very good
magazine. It covers most of the important news events of
the week as well as social issues and trends that I find
important. I guess I should be ashamed to admit that I
don't keep up with the world events on a daily basis but
at least with newsweek magazine I can keep an issue in my purse
and read while I wait on appointment or while waiting on
the kids to get out of school in the afternoon (the joys
of carpooling). I feel somewhat more educated when I
read it but the articles are light enough to keep my
interest. I really have enjoyed it.

2 out of 5: Superficial
coverage and biased journalism
by mrosenbe, Dec 08 '04
newsweek was intended for the
reader who isn't really interested in thinking or
knowing much about current events, but wants to pretend
like he's informed. The articles are often superficial,
biased, and of limited usefulness to the informed
citizen. On issues ranging from Global
Warming, taxes, the budget, and campaign finance reform,
newsweek pooh one side of the debate in favor of the
other, and often gives shoddy analyses of both sides.
The writers also try to mix in unheeded sensationalism
into their articles (though not to the tabloid level). On the positive side, the quotes
page and political cartoons are often enjoyable, and
occasionally there will be a good syndicated column
mixed in with the garbage. Time is much better, although I
certainly wouldn't recommend that magazine either. If
you really want to be an informed citizen, stick with
your local paper and supplement that with opinion
magazines or articles from the left and right. Don't
waste money on this magazine. With the web, you can
obtain far more enjoyable, objective, diverse, and
balanced coverage for free.

2 out of 5: The news
magazine tied with NBC
by justin, Dec 08 '04
newsweek magazine has an uncanny ability to
dumb-down the news and make it look more like
entertainment. Full of distracting color ads and
pictures. The two stars go towards their brevity in some
controversial subjects. |
