4 out of 5: Good
all-round coverage
by skyrydr, Dec 28
'03
While I don't always agree with
what I read in newsweek magazine, I like the diverse perspective
it presents. I rarely get as upset by an article as by
watching 5 seconds O'Reilly Factor. I live 2.5 years in
the US now, and I must say that I am disgusted by what
is titled News on the local TV channels (notable
exception: BBC World News on PBS). While I should read NYT, WJ or WP to keep up, those are just too voluminous,
and bound to be "mistakenly apprehended" from my
doorstep anyway. In order to stay connected to what is
happening outside this country, what/why things are
happening inside this country, and have something that
fits into my mail receptacle, newsweek gives me a nicely
condensed picture while its cover story provides in
depth focus for ~50 news hot spots over the year. Unlike
some target-audience magazine, newsweek's English is
refreshingly comprehendible, and mostly free of
fashionable monosyllabic confusion and acronym soup. |

4 out of 5: newsweek? Time? Depends on your political leanings
by thegrammarguru,
Dec 15 '04
I much prefer newsweek magazine to Time,
because I find Time to have strong conservative leanings
- I was recently so annoyed with one Time commentary
that I threw the rag across the room. I suspect others
who have reviewed newsweek here may dislike it for the
very reason I like it - it tends to be much more
liberal, and to raise questions about current
conservative policies. |

4 out
of 5: Beats listening to the news every
night
by naphtalia,
Dec 11 '04
I'd rather read newsweek magazine than
listen to Dan Rather every night on the tube, (forgive
the play on words.) Just horsing around. Now that that's
out of my system, I'd like to say for those out there
who haven't had an opportunity to read this wonderful
magazine in the past, now would be a great time to do
so, newsweek, provides the reader with in depth
articles, book reviews, stories from right here at home
and around the globe, interesting columns written from
both the liberal point of view as well as the
conservative, and to round it all out don't forget the
entertainment value. In my opinion "newsweek
magazine is an easy
sale. |

5 out of 5: NEWS LITE...,
by odiedude,

newsweek, as is its prime competitor, Time, is a
glossy, weekly news magazine that covers national and
global new events. It also covers business, education,
art, entertainment, and current newsmakers. Its coverage
is snappy and timely, with well written articles and
essays, though dubiously objective, as the magazine has
a distinctly liberal bent. It is this slant that
distinguishes it from Time. The articles have as much
depth as may be expected from a news magazine with a
broad agenda and are well illustrated with photographs.
As a subscriber, I look forward to receiving each weekly
issue. newsweek magazine, as does Time, also publishes topical
specialty issues throughout the year that provide more
depth of coverage in a specific area.

3 out of 5: A
great weekly summary for those with busy schedules
by Rico B, Sep 14
'04
newsweek is definitely the best
quick & easy weekly summary of what's going on. They
include a nice mix of hard news, entertainment, quality
editorials and timely in-depth reports in a format that
is easy to digest in under an hour.
